Clean Floor,, 2009

2009, Clean Floor, in The Researchers’ Night (25/09), FBK-Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Povo (TN) (In the two main buildings headquarters to Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Trento and in Povo (Trento). )

The artist identifies her artistic intervention as “language conversion”: she has asked the foundation’s scientific researchers to translate into artistic gesture the basic idea behind their research, recording the entire process of negotiation of meaning that emerged during the meetings.

Between the Brain and the Bunny [transl. Anna Scalfi], 2009 In the conference hall of the Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Trento. The scientific research conducted by Paolo Avesani (FBK) is translated into a video-installation that provides the intuitive comprehension of scientific research on the interpretation of neuro-images. The open source cartoon used in the experiments is projected opposite the images of how the brain behaves during vision. On an intermediate semi-transparent screen are projected the connection labels assigned.

Through the Looking- Glass [transl. Anna Scalfi], 2009 In the “overhead” walkway between the two FBK buildings and at the bus stop shelters in the environs. The scientific research conducted by Michele Zanin (FBK) and Paul Chippendale (FBK) is translated onto several glass panes on which thin adhesive strips are stuck so as to follow the apparent profile of the surrounding mountains, allowing visitors to overlay the outlines onto the real images and state the name of each peak. The intervention proposes the dynamics of alignment between vision and information on which their technological research is based.

I’m Here [transl. Anna Scalfi], 2009 In the corridors of the FBK building in Povo (Trento). The scientific research of Paolo Massa (FBK) and Maurizio Napolitano (FBK) is translated into a performance aimed at the shared re-appropriation of work space: on the walls of the corridors, a chromatic and toponymic characterization system is installed using magnetic tapes and sheets, so as to allow for their rewriting and negotiation through cooperation dynamics. An idea of mapping that is close to their research on social networks.

habitAzione [transl. Anna Scalfi], 2010 In the conference hall of the Fondazione Bruno Kessler building in Trento. The scientific research of Chiara Leonardi (FBK), Massimo Zancanaro (FBK), Fabio Pianesi (FBK-Netcarity) and Francesca Gennai (IRSRS) is translated onto the floor on which is traced the 1:1 scale floor plan of a 70 sq.m. house, showing its walls and furniture blocks, cooking range and washroom included. This represents the translation of the work of a research group that designs technology starting from the study of the persons who will be the end users of that technology. The house devised in such a way hosts the technology designed, the spaces overlap, researchers and groups of elderly people share rooms, objects and prototypes.
